10 on tuesday – chores

1. What are your designated chores in your home?
If it’s inside it’s mine.  Outside, it’s Gary’s.  The kids help out with whatever is assigned to them.

2. What is your least favorite chore to do around the house?
Mopping.  Cleaning the shower.  Putting clothes away.

3. What was your designated chore growing up?
I remember vacuuming, doing dishes, and cleaning my bathroom.

4. Did you get paid to do chores or was your allowance connected to you completing your chores?
Not that I recall.  If we needed cash for something, my parents gave it to us.  I got my first job at 15 so I had some of my own money.

5. If you had a bit of extra money, would you hire a cleaning person or would you save the money for something else?
I have had a cleaning lady before and I loved it.  LOVED it.  If I could get my house in order enough to have someone come again, I would.  I once hired one of the more expensive professional companies to come clean and they didn’t do near as good as job as the individual.

6. What chores will you make your kids do around the house?
They empty the dishwasher, take care of folding and putting away their own clothes, cleaning their rooms, and cleaning their bathroom.  If we have company coming, they get additional chores just to lighten the load and get it all done quicker.  SuperGirl thinks using the Swiffer on the floors is fun.  And cleaning the toilet usually causes a riot in my home – as in, who GETS to do it.  My kids are weird.

7. How frequently do you do laundry? Wash your sheets? Dust?
We “manage the laundry monster.”  If someone is out of underwear, we wash.  I try to do a load a day but there are just some days that that can’t happen and there is nothing worse than leaving clothes in the washing machine to stink or in the dryer to wrinkle.  It happens, though.  We wash the sheets as needed.  And dusting… well, when the kids start writing their names in the dust, I know it’s time.

8. Do you have a designated “chore day” during the week?
I would LOVE for Saturday morning or Friday afternoon to be our designated time.  That way I can enjoy a clean house over the weekend.  We are just so busy that this doesn’t happen all the time.  But when it does… yay!

9. What is your favorite chore–if such a thing exists?
I totally enjoy washing the dishes.  For real.  For Christmas, I asked for a new sink.  I find it relaxing and it is a job that has a definite end to it.  Dishes in the dishwasher, counter fresh and clean, everything dry, lights out.  Done.  Waking up to dishes in the sink makes me crazy.

10. Do you do anything to help pass the time while doing chores (music, TV, etc.)?
We always have “motivational music.”  I learned that term from a dear college friend.  Our motivational music styles range from Chris Tomlin to the 80’s channel to Skillet to Broadway musicals.  We run the gamut.  Keeps it fresh, I guess.

10 on Tuesday

I used to do this a long time ago… I found a website today that has been doing this for quite a while now.  She puts questions up to answer each week.  I thought I might try it!

1. What did you do this weekend?

We travelled to Frisco for a homeschool basketball tournament.  There was a LOT of basketball watching!  And subsequently, there was a lot of whining from the littlest.  We hung out with friends, ate out at amazing places (i.e. I didn’t have to cook), and even squeezed in some relaxation.  On the way home, the big girls and I hit TWO malls for haircuts and shopping!

2. Do you prefer short fingernails or long fingernails?

I keep mine pretty short because my main job is typing.  I can’t stand those super long ones some women have.  I can only imagine the junk that gets under those…

3. What is your favorite use for Pinterest?

Food and home decor with a smattering of clothes.

4. Do you sleep with your mouth open?

5. Where did you have the best pizza you’ve ever eaten?

Mario’s Pizza, Webster, TX.  They have changed owners over the years and it’s just not the same.

6. What do you eat for breakfast on weekdays?

Nothing.  But I drink a Diet Dr. Pepper.  Mom/AW, I don’t want to hear it…

7. Do you watch awards shows? Why or why not?

No.  We don’t watch a lot of movies so they just aren’t interesting to me.  The glitz and glamor is lost on me, too.

8. Can you whistle? Snap? Curl your tongue? Bend down and touch your palms to the ground?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

9. What email service do you use?

10. What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Planting flowers and the vegetable garden.

Got a new hose hanger.

Twix is up to her nasty “treat” gathering.  (I’ll spare you the photo for this one and instead post a picture of a live, healthy bunny.)

>My friend Erin did a list similar to this last week, and since there are some strange things on my desk at the moment I thought it would be a good time to copy… so here you go… 10 things on my desk RIGHT NOW.

  1. iFlip. My absolute favorite toy. Bought it off of
  2. A peeler card that is going to expire in 7 days. I’m feeling the urge to use a bunch of the coupons but I don’t think my system can handle Papa Johns, McDonalds, Burger King, Sonic, Kolache Rolf’s, and Ben & Jerry’s in such a short amount of time. Well, maybe if I used the Kwik Kar Lube and Tire…
  3. Two pairs of scissors and a pink ruler.
  4. A big red button that says, “Ain’t gonna happen” when you press it. It’s annoying but effective with the children.
  5. Luggage tags.
  6. A picture of my mom as a child.
  7. A molar.
  8. A letter from Malawi and my World Vision child. (I love getting these!!)
  9. My All About Him Christmas planner. I am terribly behind on the planning, but I’m making headway with my gift shopping.
  10. Three fortune cookie fortunes which read, “Failure is the mother of success” and “You will move to a wonderful new home within the year” and “A new challenge is near.” I don’t know if this means some wonderful things or if I just eat too much Chinese food.
